Customizing the Storyline Player: BG keeps defaulting back to a dark gray color when changed

Dec 30, 2014

Hello eHeroes Community!

I'm currently working on a new player for my team and I have come across a strange challenge. I've customized the player and when I publish it the project the player comes up exactly the way I want it. But if I click on the Player icon the base >> bg color bottom color defaults to black for some reason. I have to manually go back and change the color to the one I want (light gray).

I have attached a screenshot that shows the Preview of the player the way I want it but notice the bottom color has defaulted to black but the preview shows light grey.

Perplexing.

Hi Roger,

So you're only seeing the color revert after checking the .story file again after publishing? Have you looked that it's still referencing the same player? Player templates and color schemes are stored a bit different as detailed here. Also, what update of Storyline are you using? We're currently on update 8 of Storyline 1.

Hello Ashley,

Thank you for responding so quickly. The color will revert simply when I click on the player icon. If I don't click on the player icon and click on publish the output will be as desired. If I click the player icon the bottom bg color will revert to a black/dark gray color. I've saved my Player with the correct colors to a Scheme File and have confirmed it's been selected.

I'm currently on update 4 of Storyline 1, was there an update introduced that solved this issue? Because of IT policies, I'm unable to update to the Storyline 1 version 8 to test if this has been resolved.

Thank you,

Roger

Hi Roger,

I don't see a bug report about this or anything in the release notes - but I just tried it in Storyline 1 Update 8 and recorded a video of the behavior I see here. Everything seems to be working normally. If you're still experiencing difficulty, I'd also confirm that you're working on local project files as described here and then if the behavior persists across all files I'd look at using the update as there are always miscellaneous errors fixed and repairing Storyline as a whole.

Hello Ashley,

I've watched your video and I definitely do not see the behavior that I'm experiencing. I have confirmed that my project files are on my local drive. I do not have the ability to install update 8 and my request to do so was rejected. I'll try reinstalling the application and see if that solves my problem. If I send you the project file will that include my player along with the color scheme for you to test?

Thanks again for your assistance,

Roger
