I haven't dug into the video editor much but it seems pretty basic. I think it's designed to do fine tuning (such as trimming a video) but isn't meant to compile multiple cuts. I think you'd be better off using a true video editor and then importing the edited video.
I think the video editor is pretty basic too. So I would like to use a true video editor, but cannot export the video "oin a single slide" from Storyline.
You can do simple "pseudo cuts" in Storyline itself; that is, put a video on the timeline and then trim the beginning and/or end. Then copy that video and paste it again on the timeline and trim it again. Repeat, lather and rinse.
I did it for one slide in a course where I copied the video 6 times and pasted it on the timeline 6 times so I had "7 videos." All I was doing then was segmenting the video into 7 pieces by having different starting and ending points for each of the segments.
And Storyline was smart enough to only save one copy of the video and then reuse it for each of my segments.
Again, works for simple trims. More complex stuff, I'd probably use something Adobe Premiere or other tool of that ilk.
sounds good, will give it a go. you mention that we can use adobe premiere or similar products. how do i actually go around using using the recording in other products?
I'm assuming that you are talking about editing a screencast video you recorded with Storyline with a third-party tool?
To that, here's what I'd do. I'd insert the same video on a new slide. In the "Insert Slides" window, where you decide how you want to insert the video, just right-click on the image from the screencast and select "Export movie."
Then you can save out the video you recorded as a MP4 file to your PC.
I'd then get a video editing program that can handle MP4's or convert it to a format that my editing program can handle.
After editing the video in my third-party program, I'd import it back into Storyline.
I needed to edit a video so I let SL do the compression and used the .mp4 from the Storyline project, then edited it and then pulled it back into a slide and published again. Seemed to work.

@Gerry
It should be great
So, I guess it's not possible to cut several parts of a "video on a single slide".
i'm in the same predictament ...any workarounds.
even in another package???

This is a Smart Workaround ! Thank you Gerry !

Help?
Hi,
I needed to edit a video so I let SL do the compression and used the .mp4 from the Storyline project, then edited it and then pulled it back into a slide and published again. Seemed to work.

No problem.
Here's the actual course that I did that in. (Actually, it's less a course and more a linear presentation but that's what the client wanted.)
See slide three. The "edited" segments just butted up next to each other on the timeline.
Thank You Gerry and everyone else who contibuted
this is a great tip!! THANK YOU!!
