I see that older versions of storyline did not allow you to cut the middle portion of a video and only provided trimming of the ends. Is this now a feature with storyline2 so that I won't have to waste time with the work around of splicing two videos?

The edit video feature in Storyline 2 has the same trimming options as before.
You can always submit a feature request for different options.
