D2L - short answer data

Apr 02, 2013

Sorry, I am not sure if this has been answered or not, but I have looked through a lot of pages, and couldn't find an answer I understood, if there was one out there, as I am not much of a techspert. Anyway, I was wondering if it was possible to read short answer data submitted in Articulate Storyline on an LMS - specifically D2L and if so, where should I look for this data? I am sure this is a super obvious question, but I am really stuck and any help would be appreciated.

Thanks heaps - Ashleigh

Hi Ashleigh,

I'm afraid I'm not familiar with D2L. Though it's similar to an LMS name, I don't believe this is what  you're referring to.

Can you share a little more detail on what data you're trying to report? Question type, etc.?

The following information gets communicated to an LMS by Articulate Storyline via SCORM and AICC:

  • id: This is the number of the question in the quiz. It'll be in the format Question#_#. The first '#' is the question number. The second '#' is the number of the user's attempt. For example, Question5_2 would designate the user's second attempt on the fifth question.
  • type: This is the type of question (True/False, Multiple Choice, Multiple Response, etc).
  • student_response: This is how the user answered the question.
  • correct_response: This is the correct answer for the question.
  • result: This designates whether the user answered the question correctly or not.
  • weighting: Articulate content does not currently utilize this item. It'll always be set to 1.
  • latency: This is how long it took the user to answer the question.
  • objective: Articulate content does not currently utilize this item. It'll always be set to 0.

SCORM 2004 content also communicates the question text to an LMS.

Thanks!

Hi Matt and welcome to Heroes!

I'm not familiar with D2L - but have you checked in with your LMS team to see what types of results and information can be reported back to you? Each LMS is a bit different in how it reports quiz data and if you can see student answers.

As Christine previously shared, the information Storyline will communicate to an LMS is detailed here.
