Data sometimes stored and sometimes not - irregular data storage failures, without error message

Jul 23, 2020

Hi all,

We have created a course for a customer a while ago and only during the last few months, we have encounted numerous occassions where data was not stored. It seems very random, as at the same time that data from one game is not stored, data from another game (presumably played on the same device and browser) is stored correctly. People play on smartphones, tablets and computers, in various browsers.

There has been an issue in the programming language for saving data on our server in the past, however that is now 2 months ago and players from today weren't playing back then, so it seems unlikely that they still load the incorrect code when they play today (as they did not load it onto their browser 2 months ago so cache can't be the problem). Could it somehow be that this programming language issue is still the problem today and how can we solve it?

If not, could there be an issue in our articulate file so it sometimes sends data and sometimes not? If yes, what could be a problem solver for this?

Articulate follows these steps (see printscreen attached):

- if the players moves the ball onto the red triangle (so the value of the slider is no longer smaller than 0), they can click on "OK" (button is no longer disabled and becomes normal) en this way they proceed to the next slide.

- when clicking OK, javascripts to store the data are executed if the value of the slider is larger than or equal to 0.

If I test it in Articulate itself, it seems to work fine and you can't move forward to the next slide if your value is smaller than 0. He also tries to execute the 2 javascripts when clicking OK, so that seems fine to me. FYI: “VASfear_HP_After” is the numeric variable (from the slider) that gets stored.

Can anyone give any advice where to find the bug here and how to solve this? Has anyone had the same issue of sometimes having data stored and sometimes not from an articulate storyline file and how did you solve it?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Michelle
