Deleted audio file continues to play

Sep 01, 2020

I use Storyline 360. I have a slide where the user is able to click on an icon to play audio if they need it (accessibility). Each audio file has a trigger to click on the audio icon. There is an introductory audio file on the main slide and then each slide layer has 6 audio files. The learner should view the main slide, click to open the first slide layer and then move to the 2nd slide layer when they are ready by clicking next. Everything about the 1st layer is working as intended.

The second slide is where the issue appears. There is a scenario and 4 potential "answers", each with an audio icon and file. These are all working fine. Of the 4 potential "answers", they need to select 3. I have created triggers for this and they are all working fine. The problem is that there is an audio file for "correct" that plays automatically after the user has clicked the appropriate 3 answers. It is supposed to play only when triggered by clicking the appropriate icon. Instead, it was playing automatically AND when the icon was clicked.

I could not find the problem so I deleted that audio file and recreated. The old file still played automatically. I recreated the slide from scratch and switched the "text to speech" voice from female to male, I then deleted the slide layer with the problem. When you select the appropriate 3 answers, the deleted audio file, that was NEVER a part of the new slide layer still plays automatically (the file with the woman's voice which was never added to the 2nd attempt at the 2nd slide layer, additionally, I didn't copy/paste any element from the original creation of the 2nd slide layer to prevent problems).

I cannot find the file in question or what is triggering it and have no idea what I'm missing. I copied the slide and made a presentation with just that slide to try to isolate the problem. I have attached the story file as well as the link to the published content on review.

Hi Janet,

Thanks for sharing your file and explaining the issue you were running into! In the Access layer, I noticed you change the main text in the slide by triggering a state change.

When I selected this text box and edited the states, I saw an audio file inserted within the correct state. This is how you can remove it:

  1. Select the text box.
  2. Click Edit States, and choose the "correct" state.
  3. Right-click on the audio icon and choose Cut.

See below for a quick overview of the steps. I hope this helps!
