Dial Interaction Help

Jul 31, 2017

Hello guys,

I'm very new to Storyline and would like some help making a dial interaction work.

Essentially, I have dial on Slide 1 that will have three options/branched scenarios (Low,Medium,High) that the user would need to visit before moving on to the next section.  The idea being that it is the users choice in which order they are selected.

I can create triggers to navigate to the following/corresponding slides (Low/Medium/High) based on what the user selects, however, I am getting stuck after the user is redirected back the start point (Slide 1) as I am unsure how to then disable a dial value after the user has already selected it.

Slide 1 >

Dial value @ 0 = Low > Scenario 1

Dial value @ 6 = Medium > Scenario 2

Dial value @ 12 = High > Scenario 3

Once all three have been visited then the user can continue to Slide 2

Hopefully this make of sense - and if anyone has any suggestions that would be fab!

Thank you!!

Is it a big issue if the user revisits a scenario after having viewed all 3? This would be the first question I would ask myself. It's my experience that most users will move on to slide 2 as soon as they possibly can, and that those who take the time to revisit a scenario probably actually want and need the extra info. My suggestion would be that when they have visited all 3 scenarios and slide 2 is now available, make it very clear with the way you let the user know that they can now move on... Animating the button in, having a pop up dialog with the slide 2 button, etc.

With that being said there are a few ways to disable the dial value, one way would be by utilizing 3 variables: Scenario1Visited, Scenario2Visited, and Scenario3Visited, all default value of False.

Set your dial to go to Low > Scenario 1 IF Scenario1Visited=False.

When scenario 1 loads set a trigger at the beginning of that scenarios timeline to adjust the value of Scenario1Visited to True.

Just repeat this process for the other two scenarios, and it should have the effect of disabling the dial once all three scenarios have been visited.
