Different Students Using the Same Computer - Progress Issues

Apr 01, 2016

I have instances where multiple students are taking training on the same computer.  The training is not published to LMS, but rather, for web delivery.  Student A logs into his account, takes training, passes exam and receives exam results slide, then logs out.  Student B logs into his account on the same computer, launches course, pop up asks him if he'd like to continue where he  left off, he clicks yes, and the results slide from previous student's session shows, without Student B taking any training.  He is now confused...

Is there a way I can prevent this from happening, while also allowing for the situation where Student A finishes half the training, comes back, and is still prompted to resume where he left off?

Perhaps the presentation pulling a unique identifier in the students session ID located in the web page URL?

Thank you, Wendy.  But I don't think this would fix the issue, since picking one setting would only work for 1 scenario.  For example, selecting "Always resume" would work fine if 1 user was returning to 1 computer.  But for another user starting the course from beginning on the same computer, it would automatically pick up where the last user left off.  "Prompt to resume" provides the current issue we are seeing.  And "Never resume" wouldn't help returning users.

As far as asking students to clear cache for each new user on the same computer, I was hoping for something more automated, perhaps a custom built fix or work-around, that would not ask the student to do something they may not know how to do (we have many non-computer savvy students/customers), and which would work without any extra steps needing to be taken by the student.

Hey Niall.  I wanted to add a comment about the different students resuming.  Are they logging into Windows with a separate profile on that machine?  If so, the flash cookie that enables the resume behavior will be saved within their unique profile, and it should not carry over to another student's profile.  In this case, setting to prompt to resume should work fine.

If they are using the same Windows profile, however, and "logging in" means to their online portal from which they access their course, there would not be a way to have the course uniquely resume for each student.  The flash cookie will be in that shared profile and will act the same way for all students.

I hope that helps clarify!

Hi, there. Thank you for the response. For most of our 4,000+ employees, the "prompt to resume" feature works great. But for the 100+ employees who share computers for training purposes, we still need a work-around to accommodate them. And although I appreciate the emailed responses, I'd really like to get a live person on the phone to talk through this. Please provide me with a number to call. Thank you.
