Disable next button - and turn to normal state triggers not working

May 01, 2019

I'm having rectanble box that isn't firing the triggers properly.

In the one of my slides "Objectives Layout" slide - I tried to add 3 clean rectangles and then using the storyline states add "selected" state vs doing "groups" - this worked great on some other slides in the project - but seems to not be working here.

I did recently remove the "disable next buttong" trigger so content could be reviewed by stakeholders and not hold the course up, but wanting to see if you see anything I'm missing.

Also I, did try to delete and rebuild the boxes twice, thinking they were just glitching.

Hi, I've had a look at it but am unsure of what it is that is not working. I can click on each of the rectangles and it takes me to the next slide on that topic and when I navigate back to the Objectives Layout slide there is a tick on the rectangle I just selected, so that seems to be working ok.

If you can describe what is is that isn't working in the way you want it to I will take another look.

Hi Jason,

Looking at your triggers, it would appear that you have them in the wrong order on this slide.

In each case you are jumping to the next slide (scene) before changing the state of the Next button back to Normal. Once this slide loses focus, no further triggers will be actioned and so the state of the Next button will never be changed.

If you swap your triggers round for each of your rectangles (i.e. make the jump trigger the last one in each case), everything should work OK. The reason the order works on slide 4.1, for example, is that you are just showing a new layer as opposed to jumping to a new slide and hence the trigger underneath will still be actioned.

Thanks for the reply,

What I'm wanting to do is disable the "next" button until all 3 items have been "visited"

I removed the disable next trigger so the course could be previewed, but I would to need add that back. IT was recommended that I switch the triggers in the "change the state to normal" and I just tried that and still no luck.

The next button won't fire back to normal.

Hi Jason

because you are leaving the slide change the trigger from when user clicks to when timeline starts

So the trigger would be :

Change the state of Next button to normal when timeline starts on Objectives layout on condition that AWARE = Visited AND LAP = Visited AND Attest = Visited .

This will be a SLIDE trigger and sit at the top of the trigger panel - you will only need one trigger not the three you have now as you are capturing all the conditions.

You may notice that as the user clicks the objective the user may see the object change to visited state before it jumps to it's related slide. If you don't want this to happen you can duplicate the VISITED state and create a custom state e.g. COMPLETED and use that in the triggers.

Let me know if this doesn't make sense or you need more help with it.
