Disable next button at Start - then disable Option 1 - after user clicks four hot spots, and Option 2, user has seen 6 layers

Jun 09, 2020

Hi there,

I saw this article...

https://articulate.com/support/article/how-to-disable-the-next-button-until-users-finish-interacting-with-a-slide

But I feel like it is missing the disable and change to normal step for me as it talks about jumping to next slide.

Slide 1.9 - I disabled if my variables are False, then I change variables to True when user clicks each of the four hotspots.

My struggle is Change state of next button to normal when.....I assume I could say when the variables are true but I need to select something in the trigger in between (like when timeline starts), but i know this is not correct.  I also, want to ensure that if they move forward and come back that the Next button is normal.  Someone helped me last week for this on another slide but I can't figure it out with hotspots.

Slide 1.21 - trying to do the same action Disabled at start, see all the layers, then go to Normal, and also when you come back to this slide it is set to Normal.

I know I get the concept but can't seem to get all the pieces.

thanks

T

On Slide 1.9, Try this:

Change this trigger. Change the three "and' to "or".  That way, when the slide is revisited, if even one of the topics is not seen, the Next button will be disabled.

If you do that, you won't need this trigger, because if none of them are false, the button isn't disabled.  (If you were working with an object you built, you could set its initial state to disabled, and enable it if they were not false.)

On each of the layers, add this trigger. There are a lot of ways to fire the trigger to change the state of Next, but since the learner is already clicking this Marker, it may be the easiest to use.

On slide 1.13, i would put this same trigger to change the state of Next on the button that shows the lightbox, because it can't be slicked until the lightbox closes.

Thanks Tom, I think every time I try doing stuff to have the next button disabled at beginning (my SMEs) like this to ensure learners click on everything, I always find something doesn't work for me unless I add lots of conditions ...sigh..main issue is when they hit previous to go back to this slide the SME wants the next button active, and I seem to think I get it but then it doesn't work...

Yes and it is that trigger to have it enabled if someone returns to the slide is what I always seem to stumble with lol!

i remember one time someone taught me to use not visited for disabled when timeline starts and then a second trigger of visited for normal but it always seemed redundant but it did work...

Morning Walt, I got the trigger to work on 1.9, but I have one hiccup.  The learner can technically click the hotspots to move from layer to layer, so if they click the other "I" and don't close using the marker it won't trigger the next button to turn to normal.

I was trying to figure out another trigger if they click the hotspots but again, I am missing something.  Could you help guide me with this part as well, I much appreciate your help.

Morning again Walt, 1.21 should be Taking a trauma-informed approach it doesn't have light boxes.  I have built five layers with the same buttons they can click and open an accordion style look.  So here I am trying to figure out if I have to do something for every button on every layer to have the next button turn to normal.  I create a t/f variable and said disable next at timeline start if they are all false, but again my struggle is how to make the next button turn to normal, after they have look at all 5 buttons regardless of layer, as i realize they may not click on them in order....so sorry maybe I should just not worry, but thought it is good to learn...
