Disappearing buttons and hover state suggestions

Hi, all.
The built in hover states for buttons don't allow me to remove the base text on a button, so I created a custom state that changes the button shape and displays an image instead of text when you hover over it. These buttons appear all throughout my project.
Unfortunately, I'm getting really buggy results with them in both Storyline1 and 2. Individual buttons will randomly disappear at different times (both during preview and publish). From what I've read here, this is probably happening because I'm not using the built-in hover states.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can either fix the disappearing issue or mimic this look using the intended hover function?

Hello Jeana, and welcome to Heroes!
You can edit the built in states. When you select the shape, click on Edit states and when you select the built in Hover state, you can change the shape, color, effects, and insert pictures, and change the text.
