Disappearing Closed Captions Icon (SL3/SL360)
Jan 27, 2020
I'm encountering an issue where after you click on the Closed Captions icon and roll your mouse away, the icon disappears.
I believe I've been able to narrow down the issue to our custom player settings, as this doesn't happen with the default player. I don't see any way to customize the CC button (Storyline 3 & 360), so I'm curious if there are any suggestions on what settings in the advanced color editing might be responsible for this (we did a lot of transparency changes to make the player cleaner), or if there might be something else involved?
SL3 sample file (with customized player set up) and video showing the defect attached.

Hi Joseph
I don't have SL3 installed at the moment but tested in SL360 changing the button hover colour to red and it appears to be working. Maybe try changing the background colour to something else and then changing it back to see if that makes a difference.
Thanks Wendy. Could you describe the specific item setting you changed in the edit item section? So far I haven't been able to reproduce a solution by changing anything in here.
Hi Joseph
I changed the hover background from your green to red just as a test colour.
I downloaded the latest SL3 install and tested it there and it works as well
Additional follow-up: this is occurs in SL360 as well for me. When you tested it, did you click on the CC button while the video was playing? That is when this occurs.

Perhaps check the transparency of all the button states - that might be the issue.
Hi Wendy, thanks again - this works when the caption button has not been clicked, but the icon still disappears when it has been and you hover away from it.
Changing hover background to red this still happens in both SL360 and SL3. Are you clicking the caption button when the video is playing or just hovering over the paused video? Just trying to repro if this is a bug or a setting issue.
Appreciate the suggestions. I tried changing each transparency and keep getting the same issue. I'll submit a support request.
Just to follow up on this one:
The setting that was causing the CC icon to appear to disappear was in Tab -> Selected Background.
Wow that doesn't even seem logical - glad you got it sorted Joseph and thank you for sharing the solution.
