Dividing a project - no effect on file size

Oct 02, 2017

I have a project on 200 MB, which I have divided into five separate chapters. Strange thing is that now each separate file is 200 MB.

Has anyone else experienced the same thing? Is there an explanation the this odd behavior?

Hi Gustaf,

we have experienced a similar behaviour - quite the same as PowerPoint behaved some versions ago. I am guessing here, but I assume that Storyline is keeping some historical information. In the cases I encountered, we could reduce the file-size by those 2 measures:

- If you are using screenrecordings, make sure to delete the screenrecordings that are not in use.

- Open your storyline files and save them by using 'Save As'. This seems to clean up some data that Storyline does not need anymore.

Hope that helps.

Kind regards,
Marcus

Hi Gustaf, thanks for your post! I'm curious--what version of Storyline are you using?

A project file might not immediately shrink in size when you delete slides. Storyline keeps deleted assets temporarily after you delete them in case you need to click Undo to restore them. The good news is your project file will eventually shrink, usually after saving it a couple times. But you can also get it to shrink right away by saving and closing the project file, then re-opening it and saving it again.

Let me know if that works for you!
