Document Linking
Aug 07, 2013
In a program I am currently woirking on I want to link to documents (PDF) either in context from a content page or through a Resources section that is accessed by a navigation button in a custom nav bar. I do not want to use the resources function in the player (since I am using a custom interface). My question is how to designate the path to the document files and where the files need to be located relative to the other compiled Storyline files. Is there a particular folder they should go in that would allow me to simply enter the file name in the trigger dialog box, or do I need to enter an absolute path to the document? The main thing is that this continue to work when the program is moved to our LMS where the absolute pathing to the LMS content server will change. I am including a screen shot that shows the interface and trigger dialog. Thanks in advance for any guidance.

You can enter the absolute path of the PDF (or browse and select it). Storyline makes a copy of the PDF and puts it in the final package. It shouldn't make a difference on your LMS because the package will point to the PDF relatively. This has been my experience. When in doubt, give it a test!
