Does the volume control affect screen readers?

Hi all,

I'm working on a 508 compliance project and the client had a question about using screen readers with the course. I don't currently have a copy of JAWS, so I can't test this myself. Does anyone know if muting the course would also mute JAWS screen reader? If the course instructed learners who use screen readers to mute the volume using the volume button that's built in to the player, would it affect their screen reader at all?
