Drag and Drop Interactions Are Not Working on Mobile
Oct 16, 2019
Hi Team!
Is there a bug or known issue with using drag and drop interactions on mobile devices?
We have knowledge checks built into our eLearning courses. However, our users seem to be encountering issues with drag and drop interactions when using mobile devices. This is for multiple courses and multiple users are experiencing this. However, when they try from a desktop it works fine.
For example:
- on one interaction in one course, we've seen the following; Sometimes the drag items move behind the characters, other times the characters become dragable but not the designated drag objects, and other times one of the objects doesn't allow dragging
- on another course, the drag items do not allow dragging sometimes
The users that have reported these issues have confirmed that when they go to a desktop it works. However, other times I log into their account as them from a desktop and the interaction remains broken so it cannot be completed.
Please help.
Thanks in advance!

Hi Philip,
Thank you for reaching out!
Do you happen to know which mobile device and browsers are running into this issue? Does this seem to affect all mobile users or just a few? While I haven't seen any reports about drag and drop features not working on mobile, there are some current instances that we are looking into with iOS 13 devices.
If you can find out which mobile devices are experiencing this issue, that would help out a lot!
Hi Vincent,
We have people report issues from iPhones and iPads trying on both Chrome and Safari. The most recent was a user with the new iPhone Pro.
We are hearing about this from a few users but not everyone.
Hi Phillip!
Good information. Also, are you publishing using AMP?
Would you mind if we ran a few tests using your file? You can share your file by using the "add attachment" button in this discussion. Or you can share the file privately with our Support Engineers by using this link.
Hi Lauren!
Not sure what AMP is? We use Storyline 360 and publish to SCORM 1.2
That's the only version of SCORM our LMS supports.
Here's the file
Here's the file.
Hi Philip
I just published and ran your file on my iphone 11 Pro Max and it's working as expected
Ok. Thanks for testing on your end. It works for the majority of our users, but it does "break" for some now and then,
Hi Philip!
It sounds like we need to find a common denominator! It's hard to put a finger on the issue when it's inconsistent.
I'd like our Support Engineers to dig deeper, please use this link to share your file.
Hi Lauren,
I followed the link but there is no place showing for me to upload the file.
Hi there, Philip. Sorry for the trouble!
You can send the .story file privately to us by using this link. When you click out of the 'Find your answer now' window, you should see the Add Attachment and Submit Case buttons below.
We look forward to having a thorough look!

Hi Philip,
It looks like you may have responded via email again, and that email signature came through! No worries on our part, but if you'd like to prevent that from appearing click the "View" button in the email notification and you'll be brought right back here to E-Learning Heroes!
You're in great hands with our Support team, so they'll be in touch soon!
Oops.
OK. Thanks!
Any joy here? I am having a similar issue with a storyline drag and drop interaction that works on iphone but will not work on android using chrome. This is a major for me as I have just gone through a lengthy process of convincing people that Articulate is good for mobile.
Hi David,
No luck here. It seems neither Articulate nor we can replicate the issues users are reporting. I hope you have better luck.
Hi David,
If you're running into similar issues, please be sure to check you have at least the minimum system requirements for running a course on Android and connect with one of our support engineers to see if we can replicate the issue and offer some help!
Any update on this? We are starting to see drag and drop issues on Smart Phones now also. On Desktops all is fine but on Smart phones many cannot get the drag function to work. This can be country specific. I never recommend using smart Phones for doing modules but in many countries it is the only option available.
Hello Darren!
I'm happy to help! Is there a specific device where the user can't use the drag and drop interaction?
If you're comfortable sharing your file, I'd like to test it on my end so that I can log this behavior with our team. You can either attach the .story file to this public discussion or upload it to me directly.
I'm having problems with drag and drop on iPhone as well. The drag items don't snap to the targets which means it doesn't allow the user to complete the task.
I'm attaching a demo file which shows the problem.
Hi Darren,
Thanks for reaching out and letting us know that you're running into a similar issue.
I was able to take a look at your .story file and published it for the web to take a look on my iPhone (iOS 14.4).
Here is my published output. Do you experience the same issue?
I'm able to drag and drop the items as expected and they are snapping to the drop zones as well:
The issue I'm running into is with the Submit button, which can be solved by resetting the 'count' on retry as well and perhaps shift the slide items up so that the bottom center object will not be blocked:
Leslie,
well, that's really strange. It seems to work fine in your example.
I'm going to continue to investigate on my end.
As far as resetting the Submit. Yes, I fixed that. Just something I forgot
to do. Thanks for mentioning it.
Kind Regards,
Darren
