Drag and Drop - non-graded - multiple layers with feedback

May 21, 2020

Hey guys,

I'm creating a e-learning courses about communication in the workplace on Storyline 3. On one slide I want to have an interactive, non-graded 'knowledge check' where the learner gets a scenario, several communication options and they drag the one they think is correct into a speech bubble (picture). They would then receive feedback (yes this is correct/no - the correct answer is this), and would them move them on to the next question. I've thought of doing layers for this but not sure how this would work. Ideally I want four questions before the learner can move on to more content.

I am hopeless with drag and drop - the first slide was my first attempt and then I tried to go for something a bit more complex with no success. I've wiped the drag and drop interaction on the last slide to make it less messy. I'm a bit stuck and any help would be much appreciated :)

Attached is a copy of the storyline slides.

You have a good idea, but if you want to drag and drop on a layer, you can't use any of the built-in magic. You can write triggers to do all those things, but I don't think you gain anything, and certainly not enough to be worth your while.

Your visitors can't tell if they are on a new layer or a new slide, so you should use the one that is most efficient for you. They can be required to answer all four questions before they go on to the next content. And it can be done much easier if you use four slides, rather than one slide with four layers.

I would start with slide 1.2. Rename the "Success" layer to "Correct". That way you have complete control over what is on it, but it shows automatically when "Submit" is clicked. Then copy it, rename the copy "Incorrect", and change the text appropriately. If you look at the Form View, at the bottom where the Feedback is, you will see that correct and incorrect are using (Custom slide layer).

Now, you can create a Drag and Drop freeform question slide. Copy everything from slide 1.3 to the new DnD slide. Delete The "Correct" and "Incorrect" layers and replace them with your two custom layers. Copy everything from the layer of 1.3 to this slide, and give them Hidden initial states.  When "I'm Ready" is clicked, hide the objects that need to be hidden, and show the quiz objects. Delete or hide "Prev" and "Next", if the learner must answer the questions before seeing more content.

If you want them to answer correctly before they advance, set the number of attempts to unlimited, and rename "Incorrect" to "Try Again". With more than 1 attempt, the "Incorrect' layer never shows until the last attempt.  On the "Correct" layer create a button and trigger to jump to the next slide. (If they are allowed to move on with an incorrect answer, also put this button and trigger on the "Incorrect" layer. Once this slide works, duplicate it three times, and change the text appropriately.

See slide 1.4 in the attached sample. I gave only one attempt.
