Drag and drop objects appearing on top of things they shouldn't

Feb 05, 2021

I have two main things happening on a slide - a drag and drop activity and a slide out image. The slide out image is a reference for the user.....they click a tab, the image slides out over top of everything, they click the tab again and the image slide back out of view. They can do this as many times as they wish.

This all works fine before any activity. The issue happens when the user drags any of the objects in place for the activity. Once any of these objects have been moved, if you slide out the image again in view, the moved objects are "on top" of the slide out image thus covering it up.

I'm sorry but there is too much confidential material to share the file, I hope that explanation is not too confusing.

Is there any way to make the slide out image always be the top level object no matter how much dragging and dropping has occurred on the slide so that it is never covered up by any other object?

SL is designed so that any drag item is brought to the front when it is dragged. It makes sense, because if you start dragging something, and it goes behind another object, it loses contact with the mouse, and the drag can't be finished. So not only can't you change that behavior, you need to keep it to have drag capability.

Fortunately, this is a visual medium, so nothing has to do what you want; it only has to look like it is doing it.  Copy your image (which allows it to keep its animations), and paste it to a new layer. Change the tab triggers to show and hide the layer, instead of the graphic. The layer will cover everything on the base layer.  See the attached sample.

By the way, if it were necessary to share the file, you can take that slide, replace the text on it with goobledeygook, or lorem ipsen, replace the graphics with shapes and not worry about confidentiality.
