I have a free form drag and drop slide that has a Drag and Drop Options button in the Question Tools - Design tab. However, I have a standard Drag and Drop activity and that Options button does not appear. Are those options not available for standard Drag and Drop activities? See attachments for examples.
Hi there, Daniel! It looks like you're comparing the Freeform Drag-and-Drop question type to the Matching Drag-and-Drop question.
The Matching type is a pre-built question that has been pre-formatted. Simply add your question and answer content, and touch up the look to suit your course. With freeform question types, you have a bit more control over how the interaction looks and works, and that's why you have those options.
Do you need to expedite creating a few of those freeform drag-and-drop types? You could always create and format one, and then treat that slide as a template from which you can duplicate others!
I have a follow-up question. Using the matching drag-and-drop question (not freeform), I'm trying to create a trigger based on the drop correct states of the drag and drop. But the trigger doesn't seem to work at all. When the item is dropped in the correct spot, nothing happens. I have tried the same thing in the freeform drag and drop and it works just fine.
Is it something that I'm missing or will this type of trigger not work in the matching drag-and-drop?
The first thing that comes to mind is that the 'drop correct' state of your object typically happens after submission, not when it's actually dropped correct unless you have some custom triggers.
If you'd like to share a sample .story file, we could certainly take a look and try to help you out :)
Hi Leslie - thanks for the response. I had a suspicion that the states would not change until the activity was submitted. That's why I was hoping that the full options available to the freeform drag and drop were also available in the matching activity, because I noticed that there you can change it so that the states are recognized without submitting the activity.
Please see the attached story. I'd like to give feedback when each drag and drop choice is made. I can accomplish this with a freeform activity, but the functionality in the matching drag-and-drop is smoother, and so if I'm able to get this piece to work there, I would stick with the matching drag and drop.
I would stick to a freeform drag-and-drop interaction if you're looking to give learners immediate feedback. There's so much more you can do with the freeform interactions--the possibilities are endless! With the matching drag-and-drop form-based slide, you're more restricted in what you can do.

Got it. Thanks Alyssa!
