So I want to do a drag and drop where the students drag the term to the definition. But I am having trouble in my head fleshing the triggers etc. Any examples or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
I'm not sure that I understand how you want this to work based on the file that you've shared here. Have you considered utilizing a Freeform Drag and Drop that is built into Storyline 2?

Set QuestionVariable to 1
Show definition 1
Pause timeline
If user clicks on item 1 and QuestionVariable = 1 set state of definition 1 to hidden
If user clicks on item 1 and QuestionVariable = 1 set state of item 1 to hidden
Set QuestionVariable to 2
Resume timeline
Repeat
Actual dragging may be more complicated.
