Drag and Drop Question
Mar 23, 2016
I have completed a storyline activity that requires students to sort different items into the correct category. My problem is that, for those categories that have multiple answers, if they aren't put into the drop target in the same order as I put them in the form, when submitted, it shows that the answers are incorrect, even though order doesn't really matter.
Any suggestions how to fix this?
Thank you!

If you can attach your .story file, it will be much easier for someone to give you some ideas. Just use the ADD ATTACHMENT button below when you reply.
Hi Rebecca,
As Walt mentioned, we'll want to take a look at the .story file how it's working. If you're able to share a copy of it here we can test it out. In the meantime, perhaps you'll also want to look at setting the drag and drop options as detailed here.
Thanks! I'd appreciate any help I can get.
Rebecca,
The published output doesn't let us look inside to see why things are happening. Could you attach the working file- the Bill_of_Rights.story file?
Thanks.
OK, here is the correct attachment (I hope)
Rebecca,
I tried several different sequences, and always got the answer correct.
I suspect that what is happening is that one or more answers are not being dropped on the correct target when you get an incorrect response.
This can happen two ways:
1. If an answer gets shuffled onto its correct target, I suspect that you just leave it there. It does not register as being dropped unless it is moved by the user.
2. Answers may appear to be dropped on a target, but in reality aren't. Changing the snap option to tile may make this obvious to the user.
By your description, I would guess that #1 is the most likely. If you move them into a specific order, it is more likely that you have moved them all.
Give it a try, and let us know the results.
You are right. It is #1. How can I fix it? Some are going to end up in the right place every time.
One option would be to have them first appear in the spaces between the hotspots.
Another would be to have them appear one at a time above the hotspots.
Hi Rebecca!
I see that Walt is assisting you here, but I wanted to mention that replying to the forums via e-mail attaches your signature. You are welcome to pop in and edit if needed.
Hey Walt -
I tried having them appear one at a time above the hotspots, but then I can't shuffle the order they appear in. An suggestions?
If you scatter them around in different places (in their original spots on the slide), they will always appear in the same order, but in different places. You can also manually mix them up, but they will always show up in the same order. I really don't have any suggestions. Sorry.
