Drag and Drop quiz and Edge issue

May 23, 2018

Hello community,

I need help. I have been reviewing the posts on Edge and issues people were experiencing, including this article https://articulate.com/support/article/system-requirements-for-articulate-storyline-2.

I didn't find an answer I am looking for so I need help. I have a course that includes a drag and drop quiz. In Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Firefox it works fine. In Edge, the user receives an incorrect answer response.

Let me answer some common questions I have seen:

  • What version of Storyline did you use to author the course?
I have Articulate 360, the version previous to 3.16.15842.0 (I just updated).
  • How was the course published?
I published as strictly HTML5 content. I work for a State agency that deals with sensitive health information. We cannot use flash content for our projects anymore as the firewall blocks many aspects of flash.
  • What version of Edge are the employees using?
That is a little difficult to answer. The employees cannot update their own computers. Therefore the version of Edge may not be the latest. Not all employees have Edge (including myself) and the builds on each computer are different.

Any thoughts on how I can correct the issue. Barring fixing it, any idea on an alternative question? It is asking the employee to identify the primary and secondary dimensions of diversity.

Thanks

Hi there Scott! I'm sorry your learners are having trouble in Edge--let's get this sorted out.

You mentioned that the drag and drop question is being marked incorrect even when the learner gets the correct answer, is that right?

We were seeing an issue with drag and drop questions in Edge, but we released a fix for that issue in a previous update of Storyline

If you have already republished the content with the latest update and you're still having trouble in Edge, would you mind sharing the file with me? I'd like to do some further testing on it. Thanks!

Hi there Scott,

It sounds like you've been through the ringer lately, so I'm happy to lend a hand.

Is Slide 3.8 Quiz - Dimensions of Diversity the slide we're focusing on here?

I published that slide, and I tested the HTML5 output in Microsoft Edge. I was able to see the "Correct" layer after completing the interaction correctly. Here's a Peek of my testing.

Could you also test this link in Edge and let me know if you can see the correct layer? I'll be standing by!

Scott Burnett

I tested it in Edge and still received the error of coming up incorrect.

Here is what I put in (I had to double check to make sure the answers are correct):
Answers

It came up incorrect:
incorrect

I am wondering if it is because of the Edge version we are using? I doubt we are using the latest version.

Any other fixes you might think of?

I have just gotten started using articulate and specifically Storyline360.
I have the same problem, publishing in a corp environment does not have option to "choose browsers" to get the production to function. That is a real headache when these types of problems is continously showing up from update to update.

So far my storyline360 user experience is mixed , But it also seems to be focused on the publishing and the browser area/viewing errors, not the editing and creation. To get creation to have value,  publishing and viewing obviously needs to function. With clear conditions on how it has been tested to deliver expected results could be a foundation to start from.

Hello Håkan,

Sorry to hear that you've run into a similar problem. Are your users getting an incorrect response on a drag and drop question in an older version of Edge as well?

All of our viewing requirements can be found in the documentation here, which does state to use the latest version of Microsoft Edge for both Flash and HTML5.

Hi Scott,

You'll definitely want to use the newest version of Edge available, as older versions could have bugs or issues that are going to impact your Storyline courses (or your general web experience).

Hi Håkan,

I'm not sure what you meant about the option to choose browsers - perhaps that your IT team locks down which browsers you have access to? We support a large number of browsers, but it will be important to be on the latest update for each listed here.

If you're still hitting roadblocks while testing your content, we're here to help. We'll want to have our team take a look at the .story file and know any detail you can offer about the issue you're seeing and the environment in which you're testing. Feel free to share those items here or send them along to our team here.

I can appreciate Håkan's comment and frustration on this.

As a State Government organization we have to meet certain security requirements. So always having the latest version of a browser is not a possibility. Our IT folks have to test each version of each browser to make sure of the security with our applications. For me this presents an issue as I cannot choose to have the latest browser.

Hi,  have a case about this right now and i am getting excellent support , but for future reference i have now gotten a simple message from my IT department. Edge is not recommended nor supported. I will have to test on latest version on IE11 and Chrome ( special security version from corp)

So that is the future in which i need to work. Clear framework.

As i mentioned, the support i have received has been good and i am getting a clearer picture on what to learn from this moving forward.

1. Articulate 360 is modern and needs modern infrastructure for the viewer.

2. There are currently known bugs in storyline 360 that effect experience badly, especially interactions.  One of the bugs has a workaround - The Shuffle questions option, should be disabled until further notice.

3 Keep up to date on what browsers is requirement from articulate360.

It took several persons including articulate support and thirdparty supplier of templates a while to boil down the  picture to these findings.

As we say . " storm in water glass"  - ends up with a greater understanding for the complexities to consider when Articulate  now also relies on HTML5 outside of the articulate player environment.

Just something one has to adapt to. E-learning tools always have these transition periods in technology and we adapt.

Articulate teams has been on this for a while now and i see good results of pinpointing the issues. Next step is a bug fix release.
Note- Problem was partly solved by IT saying they did not recommend nor supported Edge. So i will not use edge again.

I now have two browsers i need to relate to for internal use. One less. In time there might only be one? Only chrome to consider.

  • Hi Håkan,
  • I appreciate you continuing to work with Eloisa to get to the bottom of this and as she just shared our team has identified an issue where drag items or choices are hidden by a background graphic in Pick One, Pick Many or Drag and Drop freeform questions when the answers are set to Shuffle. This is something our team is looking into a fix for now.
  • As for the issues you've run into with Edge, I did want to clarify it is a browser we support. 360 supports the latest version as detailed here.
