e-learning: scrollable web page paradigm vs. PPT paradigm

Nov 02, 2012

It's my sense that we're in the middle of a major paradigm shift in e-learning design that parallels the shift in webpage design that's left the conventional wisdom of a slide-drive content presentation to scrollable pages presentation suitable for mobile devices but, when done well, is more practical in the PC/Mac on screen environment.  For a great example of this web design approach, we need look no further than Articulate's website.

I've not used Articulate, so before I make the investment, I'd greatly value your comments about this trend and how well this software would accommodate building courses similar to those on this or Apple's sites, for example.  (on those scrollable pages could be video objects, images, and so forth.

Hey, Bruce -

Articulate's tools currently lean towards the slide-based paradigm. I'm with you, I think we're seeing a shift away from the fixed dimension defaults due to the advent of pocketable computers (smartphones). I LOVE the concept of a one page scrollable display with progressive disclosure features. Wish I had more time to play with the concept.

You **can** produce a different dimension of output than the standard screen size, it just won't be responsive and reconfigurable. This isn't to say that you couldn't add Storyline outputs to a responsive output as a slide based display mechanism. See brokencoworker.com from the folks at elearnerengaged.com. This clever assembly was built with Storyline.
