Edit the score of a question on submit
Sep 15, 2015
Hi all!
I have a multiple answers question. In the question it is asked from the student not to pick more than 3 possible answers. We want to make sure that student listen to the instruction (without blocking them at 3, we want them to get responsible for their action) and if they select more then 3 answers they get automatically zero no matter if they have selected the right answer or not.
I tried doing this where my question has a variable called answer_counts. On the submit button, I have triggers that add 1 point to the answer_counts for each box that has a selected state. Again on the submit button I would like to add something like, mark this question 3 points if this and this options are selected, with the condition that if answer_count is greater than or equal to 4 give zero points.
Is this possible? Can anyone help me?

Mariane,
If they select the 3 correct options they get 3 points and this is a pass. If they get anything other than this than it's a fail regardless of whether they selected 4 or 5 even though the 3 correct options may have been selected. Again it's either a pass or a fail. So a multiple response question type would do it without needing extra triggers etc.
Best
Actually it is possible for the student to get , 1-2 or 3 points depending on the answers they choose. But if they choose more than 3 answers they automatically get zero....
Hi Mariane,
I think what Seth was referring to was Storyline's built in question set up - there is no partial scoring. So it sounds like you're using a more custom set up based on the variable element. You may want to share the .story file so that the community could take a look at what you've got set up and weigh in.
I should also mention that there are 9 possible answers choices and only 3 good answers.
Soo it goes like this :
If a patient present with this kind of illness which test would you request? (Choose up tp 3)
I didn't go up to 9 but try the attached. When you're placing your conditions first select the 3 correct ones tied together with "AND" then place other conditions using "OR".
See attached. Hope it works for you.
On second thought it doesn't matter whether you use AND or OR; it's the states: selected(for the correct options) as opposed to normal(for the incorrect ones)
Thanks Seth for mocking up a sample here.
