Editing the timeline

Sep 03, 2013

First off I have to say I really like Storyline for creating awesome interactive content.

My problem comes when working with a timeline I created with about 4 to 6 minutes worth of text, video and graphic content. If I start playing what I created and then stop to edit at the 3 minute point, it wont let me go right to that point to edit. It shows me the end with almost every graphic and video element layered on top of each other. Is there a way to edit mid point in my demo with out having to slide the timeline slider to that location?

Note even if I go that that location on the timeline I still see everything on the timeline.

Hope this does not sound to confusing.

Thanks

Thank you for your response. That seem like a lot of work. What if you have several layers on your timeline. Right now I am looking at about 27 layers. Do I have to turn off about half to edit some of the early parts of the video?

Also I notice that when I have to add a graphic and I want it at about the minute marke in a 6 minute video it expands the time for that graphic element. Now I have to go the the end of the course and drag it all the way back to where I need it around the 2 minute mark. Is there a way to not have it expand to the end when you import?

Thanks again

Hi Ronald,

For the purposes of editing and working within your layers, it sounds like you'll have to hide a bunch of them. You can also set the slide properties to hide the base layer objects, and other slide layers like in this image - but if you have a number of items on the one slide layer you're working on you'll still have to hide those individually.

In regards to the graphic, any item that you insert such as a shape or text box will automatically fit the whole timeline. There isn't a way to determine how much space it should take up prior to inserting it. If you'd like to submit a feature request for these you can do so here.
