Elegant ways to progress through content
Oct 08, 2020
Hi brilliant colleagues!
I would like learners to progress through several pieces of content in any order that they like, but not be able to progress in the training until they have completed all of them.
I know several ways to do this - what I want to learn from your brilliance: How would YOU do it? I would like to find the manner that is the least likely to glitch or have significant loading delays, etc.
My first draft was one slide, 4 layers and complete variables and their corresponding triggers. What say you?
I look forward to your wisdom and thank you in advance!
General ideas on how you prioritize slides vs. layers and states vs. variables are also very welcome!

Hi Rach,
To some extent it depends on how much content you want your users to work through before being allowed to continue (i.e. does it suit multiple layers on one slide or multiple slides or even multiple scenes with multiple slides).
In the attached example, I have set up a main menu and a series of separate slides (could also be separate scenes for large content) containing the content that the user needs to go through (for the sake of the example, the total content in each section/chapter is represented by a single slide with a Main Menu button to replicate the user completing a section and being returned to the main menu slide).
The user has the ability to visit each chapter in whatever order they wish, but can only continue once each chapter has been visited. In addition, once a chapter has been visited, it is locked out of the menu. This can be easily disabled if you want the user to revisit chapters if they wish to do so. A series of True/False variables are used to show when each chapter is complete and these are then used to show a tick mark on the menu (using a state change) and lock out any further visits. Once all the variables are True, the Continue button is shown through a state change
Hope this helps, but if you have any further queries, just get back to me here.
This is good! Thanks for the reply! I do have this course menu set up to be locked so they can only go in order. But I still want to see how you have that set up for other course elements and also other trainings. I'll take a look at your example to see if I can sharpen my components! Thanks again!
Hi Rachel,
In case it is of any further help, here is a sequential version of my previous example, which requires the user to proceed in section order.
