If you're wanting to do custom stuff with the resources or anything else in the Player tabs, I recommend simply creating a lightbox slide with all your resources on it and have a button within your course launch that lightbox slide.
I've done that with marketing materials that we provide as additional resources. I have a button within the course that when clicked, launches my "additional resources" slide as a lightbox. The user can then click through the resources to launch them. You can add any type of trigger here such as the email link you mentioned.
