you can set a variable at the end of the course to send an email with a report to the defined recipient. You'd have to write some javaScript code for that as far as I know.

Chris, where are you posting the story output? We use SharePoint here and we are in the process of activating reporting that will automatically collect user active directory info, giving us details of who accesses certain files.
The difference between the two as far as my experience is that one collects the info upon launch (SharePoint) and the other provides more control, letting you know when users have completed the activities (JavaScript). Also, with JavaScript you can have an email generated as Joanna mentioned, which is fairly easy, or I think you can loop in Google Docs or other to collect variables in a file rather than kick off an individual email.
