Emailing via Outlook a story that was published for LMS delivery

May 29, 2013

I have successfully published my story for LMS delivery, but when I try to email the file to my LMS administrator I am getting an error message that states: An error has been encountered while preparing the email. Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client (Microsoft Outlook) cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please install or configure your mail client as the default mail client. Error Code (2). Any idea what I should do here?

Welcome to E-Learning Heroes, Susan!

Do you have a mail client installed on your machineandset as your default mail client?

If you're unable to get the client to communicate with the Storyline feature, you could try zipping the output files manually and adding them to an email as an attachment.

Let me know if you have any trouble with this, or any questions.

Thanks!

Hi Christine,

Actually, I also have the same issue in here, even thoughtthat yes I have my outlook mail as t as default.

I would like to ask your assistance as if I would do as you mentionedand have it as a Zip file, it would be very large to attach in an email, isthere any possibility to get the files to smaller?

Cheers!

Mohamed

Hi Mohamed and welcome to Heroes!

If the file is too large to email (including the zipped version) you may want to look into using a file sharing service such as Dropbox or Wetransfer.com to send the files to your LMS administrator. You may also check with them to see if they have an FTP site that you could upload the file too.

Hope that helps!

Thank you for the reply, I appreciate it. I have gone to a zip file and placing it on a shared drive, it was just a tad bit easier to email. I guess we could all have such issues! HAHAH!!! Thanks again!!

Hi Margaret,

It's the email client installed on your system - so if you're using Outlook on a Windows computer, that is what it would default too. When you mentioned zipping is not working do you mean you're unable to zip the published output or you're unable to email that? The latter may be do to overall size issues - but if you're not seeing it zip at all could you tell us more about what occurs when you try to zip it? Are you publishing locally as detailed here?

Ashley,

Thanks for your response. This is the first screen I see after publishing.

Then, I selected EMAIL

If I zip, I see this:

I can open the story HTML file and it runs. But how do I send this via email??? I need to include a link in a training announcement.

Hi Bo,

If the email client isn't able to communicate with Storyline that may be why you're receiving the error message. Were you able to try sharing it the way Christine and I previously recommended?

As Christine mentioned it's based on the email client not being about to communicate with the Storyline interface, so I'd recommend zipping the published output and sharing that way.

Saving and attaching a zip file is a workaround. While this may solve your issue it is not appealing to workaround a product on which you spent good money.

I was able to solve this issue for one of my users by repairing MS Office installation.

Windows 7.

Click Start

Click Control Panel

Click Programs and Features

1.) Highlight Microsoft Office (whatever your flavor)

At top of program listing window (Organize/Uninstall/Change)

2.) Click Change

In Microsoft Office window

3.) Click Repair

4.) Click Continue

Restart

Hopefully this will solve your problem so you can get what you paid for.
