Embedding a GoogleDoc for Quizzing, Preventing Backtracking

Jun 16, 2014

I am using Storyline to create interactive and self-learning lectures for online college courses. Our goal is to avoid using the LMS provided for a variety of reasons, so for that reason I am trying to not use Blackboard (which is our college LMS) or another LMS option, or any sort of paid service (like Articulate Online). These are designed to be learn on demand courses and I am planning to place the Storyline lectures in SoftChalk for a "Course Page", it is a major work in progress.

I have hit a wall in my quizzing. I have gone to route of GoogleDoc quizzes embedded into my Storyline lecture. Students are warned ahead of time that they are going to take a quiz and what I originally planned was the next slide is the quiz and the menu optioned is turned off to prevent backtracking during the quiz. The problem is when a student wishes to revisit the lecture for review, they go to the quiz page without a menu, need to start the whole lecture again, instead of just being able to use the menu to click on what they want to review. I also wanted to set a timer for the quiz through the timeline, but I can only go up to 16 minutes, which is not enough time.

I understand there is only so much I can do to prevent looking back for answers, but I also don't want to provide hand outs - I like some control, which is why Blackboard is useful, but alas I am trying to work around this. Would putting the quiz in a separate Storyline file be best and then just link the lecture to the quiz? This allows just the quiz to be taken but keeps the lecture menu available. This doesn't solve the problem of preventing looking back though. Any and all suggestions would help, I feel like I am running in circles at the moment!

Any suggestions on this?
