Enabling Next buttons when course is revisited

Jan 11, 2018

In a Storyline 2 course, I want the Next button on each slide to be disabled until the timeline ends, but only on the first visit to the slide. I have triggers on each slide that:

  • Disable the Next button if the slideXvisited variable is set to False (the default state)
  • Enable the Next button when the timeline ends
  • Set the slideXvisited variable to True when the timeline ends

This works if, when I relaunch the course, I say Yes to the "resume where you left off" option. If I say No to that, the Next buttons are all disabled. Is that just the way it is, or is there a trigger, variable, or setting I should be using to make the Next buttons enabled when the course is revisited?

I've looked at a number of discussions about this issue, but haven't found anything that solves this problem.

I don't want to use the "resume saved state" option for the "when revisiting" setting, because I want the timelines to start from the beginning, or at least be rewindable, when the course is revisited.

Hey Stuart,

When a learner is prompted to resume and they choose "No", the course will restart from the beginning as if it had not been viewed before. All states and variables will be reset, and the course will start fresh.

To avoid this, I would use the "Always Resume" setting, and also enable the player menu. That way, the course will never lose states and variables data, and learners can use the menu to go back to the first slide.
