Engage files not importing into Storyline

Apr 08, 2014

So when I go to import the PowerPoint presentation that includes the Engage file into Storyline, it acts like it works but ends up showing that slide missing. Then when I try to import the Engage file separately into Storyline, it says something about needing Engage 2.0. Not too sure what this means...

Yeah, this workaround may solve some issues, but not resolve all of them. I still don't understand how they sell that you can do it in a tutorial, but then it not be compatible or work for us... I have Engage files from the '09 version, and if that is the only case against Storyline '13 then they should work.

I will keep on trying...

Hi Frank,

Do you have Engage '13 installed on your computer? If so, Storyline is not able to import from Engage '13 and is looking for Engage '09 to be installed to conduct the import as detailed here.  Studio 09 and Studio 13 cannot be installed on the same computer, which may be why you're running into difficulties trying to import the '09 files into Storyline.

Currently I do have Engage '13 as a trial on the computer, as we did some upgrading from our '09 Storyline software. I did have Engage '09 on here prior, and I understand that Studio comes as a set, but if not having the '09 version is the only reason that it doesn't work, then that seems kind of a lame excuse...

At any rate, I hope you guys fix that really soon. It would cause so much relief for me when it comes to converting our older '09 versions of the files over to the app friendly format. Granted there is no way to go back and forth between the '09 and the '13 versions, even with the trial run, I would like to make a confident purchase and permanent upgrade to the latest and greatest you guys offer. Its just harder now to make that jump due to the incompatibility of the software, especially since its all coming from the same developers.

Hi Frank,

I hope a fix is available soon as well, and it's something that our team is working on - but I don't have a time frame to offer on when that update will be available.

As I mentioned, Storyline is seeing that Engage '09 isn't installed and therefore you wouldn't be able to import those files, and since Storyline doesn't currently support importing Engage '13 you'll receive that error message. The best method to use the Engage '13 content right now is to publish the interactions and then place as a web object within Storyline (which is how Engage '09 interactions were imported anyway).

Yeah, I have been trying to go that route but it just works very awkwardly (double dialog boxes for restarting sessions + confusingly stacked prev & next buttons) and even causes issues with video content that is part of the Engage interaction. I will just stick with using Presenter '13 for now instead of trying to convert that Presenter PPT with all the interactions over into Storyline. I just like Storyline better, and want to do more with it than the Studio set.

Actually, was kind of unsure when we first did the upgrade what the real differences seem to be between Storyline and Studio (minus replay) since they practically do the same thing, but with Storyline its site-mapped and its an all-encompassing software.
