Engage slides in Articulate ipad player

Jul 26, 2012

So I found out the wrong way that engage slides do not play on articulate ipad player. Since engage swf files are in  actionscript 2.0 and the player needs swf files in actionscript 3.0, is there a workaround?

Can I convert swf 2.0 to swf 3.0?

Have you encountered this problem while working on your project? What did you do to solve it?

The only solution which I can think of is creating flash files in storyline instead of engage. But that will be messy, since we have readymade templates in engage and creating similar slides in storyline is time consuming.

Hi art iculate,

Sorry for the inconvenience. As you know, Engage interactions in Storyline work as expected in the default Flash content, but they're not supported in HTML5 or the Articulate Mobile Player app for iPad. For a full comparison of Storyline's Flash, HTML5, and Articulate Mobile Player output, click here.

What kind of interaction are you hoping to use? Storyline makes it easy to create your own, and users have actually shared a lot of their own creations right here in the forum. Jeanette has a free one right here, for instance.

Hello Peter

Thank you for the comparison link, though I had seen it before.

I ll be using the following Engage interactions.

1. Process

2. Tabs

3. Timeline

4.  Media Tour

5. Guided Image

The one prepared by Jeanette is similar to the Tabs interaction in Engage. So, I guess I ll have to look for other similar interactions on the forum.

Lastly, can I use those interactions created by others in my storyline project and change the text etc to suit my needs?

Apologies for blank post.

I need to convert existing Atriculate Presentations that include various engage interactions into Articulate Storyline so they are supported by the articulate mobile player app for the ipad. Do I now have to redevelop /rebuild these interactions in storyline? Ahhh, lot of work ahead for me if thats the case.

Cheers,

Rob

Hi Rob,

No problem about the blank post, I've removed it for you.

Unfortunately, you won't be able to view Engage Interactions on the iPad. You may want to take a look at this comparison chart. You'll be able to see what features are supported with the different output types of Storyline.

If possible, you may want to try recreating the interactions in Storyline. Although, I suggest taking a look at the chart and confirming the features you'd like to use are supported using HTML5 or Mobile output first, to save yourself some time.

Let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks!

Hi Hattie,

I'm afraid we're only able to provide information that's been confirmed and listed on our official Studio '13 preview page. However, I believe that the functionality you're asking about will be supported by Studio '13 packages.

"Let learners interact with your e-learning content on iPads, desktops, laptops, Android devices, and more. With a single click, you can publish to multiple formats, including Flash, HTML5, Articulate Mobile Player—a native iOS app that optimizes content for the iPad."

If you'd like more information about the features that will be available with the next release, please check out the page below:

This is great, does this mean that I don't have to rebuild my current engage interactions -  was going to start rebuilding these on storyline so they would be supported by HTML and iphone player - my prayers are answered.

Hey Robert

This from our development team:

"The first time you open an Engage' 09 interaction in Engage '13 it will be upgraded to our new format. From that point on, it will behave like any newly created interaction. You will be able to publish it to Flash, HTML5, or view it in AMP. The same upgrade will occur if the interaction was inserted into a Presentation (given that the source interaction file is still available)."

Maybe this is a stupid question but if articulate studio 13 will make it possible to  to publish to Flash, HTML5, or view it in AMP and all engage interactions will automatically be ungraded - then why did I need to get articulate storyline? What value added does storyline have over articulate studio 13?

Storyline is more of a blank canvas and you can build and create custom interactions, you also have access to variables, states, layers

Studio will still produce form based interactions and quizes and is not as flexible as storyline.

Cheers Phil, its just I was wondering what to advise somebody to invest in if they are going to start to publish content? Its great to have the form based interactions, even better now that studio 13 will be out soon. I have found storyline great tbh, it has taken a bit of work converting alot of our engage interactions into storyline but its been a good learning curve.

Another stupid question coming but why is the published output templates so different between studio and storyline? Studio looks that little bit more professional? Is it possible to import a studio template into storyline player?

Hi All,

Quick question? if there is such a thing?

I published a storyline scorm on our Moodle platform, published to web and uploaded the scorm in the site files and then linked from there, all works fine except I cannot see the resources tab when viewing through the articulate iplayer app? Any quick fix to this?

Cheers,

Rob
