Equivalent of Right-Click triggers on Touch Screen devices?

Oct 01, 2018

Hello,

First of all, my project includes Drag & Drop interactivity and has right-click trigger events attached to the drag objects. The triggers work as expected on computers, but here comes the problem.

I would like to adapt this project onto devices such as iPads and SMART boards. However, unlike computers, they dont seem to have a reliable right-click function to them and is unable to trigger the right-click events.

So I was wondering if Storyline has a gesture that can be used as an equivalent for right-click events.

Thanks!

Hi,

Same issue here. We are working on a basic computer literacy course where right-clicking is an essential skill we need to cover at multiple points. We also need the course to be 100% mobile-friendly. So, we're stuck.

Jia, did you find a solution or work-around?

It would be great if triggers included touch-specific actions and even better if Storyline supported mobile-friendly conditions at the trigger level, for example...

  1. If device is touchscreen,
    1. Play media
    2. When user taps hotspot
  2. Else,
    1. Play media
    2. When user right-clicks hotspot

Meanwhile, I have a couple ideas on how to work around this limitation.

  1. On the slide's player controls, enable swiping to advance and keep the next button disabled, in order to force desktop users to right-click to advance but allow touchscreen users to advance.
  2. Add a regular click trigger, which unfortunately desktop users could use to advance instead of the right-click they're instructed to do.

Wishful thinking. Here's another idea for a Storyline feature, which would give me another option if it existed. Wouldn't it be cool if I could use conditional slide branching?

  1. If device is touchscreen,
    1. Advance to slide 1.3
  2. Else,
    1. Advance to slide 1.2
