Error: Could not load the file 'story_content/data.swf affecting older modules and 3rd party content through our LMS

We have encountered a strange issue in the last week with older storyline files not working which started a few days after we updated to the newest version of Storyline and began publishing. While this may be completely unrelated we wanted to check to see if there are any known issues with those who have updated to latest release and had older modules stop working. Staff opening these old modules receive the following error message: Error: Could not load the file 'story_content/data.swf. The modules not working seem to have been primarily published with Storyline 2,  with Flash/HTML5 as the output. We have tested our LMS, and have worked with our IS department but cannot seem to find any updates or changes made in the last week that could have caused this issue. When we  re-publish with updated settings the modules are working, but we don't know why.  (Not really ideal to go and republish all these modules however)

Could publishing with an updated Storyline 3 be causing this issue, has anyone else encountered this or something else that is a known issue? Thank you, we have been working on this problem for 5 days so any help is appreciated. Even if we can eliminate Storyline as the culprit.
