This may sound stupid but I've had something similar a while back when downloading large files. For some reason I can only do it when my laptop is in 'High Performance' energy setting. Otherwise it just stops after a few megs...
Not sure if thats a windows 8 thing or just my Samsung 9 series.
I was able to download the .zip version instead of the .exe at the time. You could try that as well.

I still don't know what the problem was, but I can now download the trial version
(It's also on the same computer I used yesterday)
