Error message for sound file

May 03, 2013

Has anyone seen this error message before?  It pops up every time I click on a slide to edit it, and the sound won't play.  Sound was originally recorded in Storyline, but I have since exported text and imported a translation, saving as a new version - would that have anything to do with it?

Welcome to E-Learning Heroes, Anna!

First, please make sure that you're working with local project files:

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names (this includes spaces and underscores).

Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.

If you are working locally, please try creating a new Storyline project. Do you receive the same error if you try to insert, play or modify audio in the new project?

If so, it may be an issue with the original course. If you can, please try to import the slides from your course into a new, blank file. For information on how to do this, please take a look a the following article:

Importing from Another Storyline Project

Let me know how it goes!

Thanks :)
