Error Message When Previewing Survey Questions

May 04, 2015

At the end of a scene that I built I created 4 knowledge check/survey questions.  The first two of the questions are a "Which Word" questions and the next two are "Pick One".

In Preview mode when I move from the second "Which Word" question to the first "Pick One" question I get a message that the slide target for this link is not available in this preview.  I ignore the message and I am able to get to the first "Pick One" question.

Can you tell me what I am missing here?  I would not want the learner to be distracted by such a message.

Attached are some screen captures illustrating the message  and the screen right before I get the error message.

Hi Joan,

Have you set it up to only preview a slide or a specific scene? If so, it may be indicating that you're not able to advance beyond that in the event that there is a slide trigger to jump to a slide outside of that scene. Also maybe there is a hyperlink or something similar that could be interfering with that link.

If you're still having difficulty with it, have you tried previewing the entire file? Does that present the same error message? If so, are you able to share a copy of the .story file here for us to take a look at?

I have set up the preview for the entire scene which includes the 4 questions. I don't have any hyperlinks in my project at this point. Next I will see if I can upload the entire scene...thanks for your help.

I just copied the 4 questions into a new project (just 4 questions) and did not get the error message...now that is weird. I wonder if I should try to delete them, then copy the questions that work and paste them back into my project. Does that make sense?

Hi Joan,

If the worked in the new project, you may want to look at importing your slides and scenes into this project as described here. I'd suggest doing a preview after each import to see if it changes the behavior as it may be something specific in the file or an item you included in the course. If you hit the error again, look specifically at the last chunk of information you imported in to see how its behaving.

Also it's worth noting that you'll want to work on your project files as described here.
