Error opening linked PDF

Mar 09, 2021

The course I'm editing contains 2 links to PDF documents. I've always just made sure that the files are in the zip file and have had no issues with it, but I've spent many hours today trying to figure out why one works just fine and the other produces the following error: This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below. (I'm publishing for LMS)

Can anyone explain why one would work and the other produce an error when they're both set up the same way, using a trigger and saved in the same file? Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Janelle,

Thanks for reaching out! There could be a few reasons why this is occurring. A few tips to think about:

  • Save the file on your local drive, typically your C: Drive, and verify there is no file-syncing
  • Be sure that the file paths to your projects and published output are well under the 260-character limit
  • Avoid using special characters, accents, or symbols in your file paths and file names

If you've confirmed all is well here, then our support team will be happy to take a look at your .story file and attachments to lend a hand!

Thank you for your feedback! I did end up deleting the second document that I couldn't get to work. That was before you posted your reply. Since seeing your reply, I have started publishing to my C Drive with the one PDF document still included and it has worked well. Why does that work better than publishing to a network drive?
