Error: This project cannot be opened. It may have been created in a newer version of Storyline.

Mar 28, 2016

There are 3 of us in our department with Storyline.  My coworker created a project and when I attempt to open it, I get the titled error.  Our help desk was of no help.  I don't know how to even figure out which version we are all 3 on.  Sorry for my lack of knowledge on this program, but this is the first I have tried to use it.

Hi Marsha there are two versions of Storyline 1 and 2.

If each go into your version and select the Help tab > About Storyline you will see which version you are.

An easier way is visually.  Storyline 1 has a black and green logo and Storyline 2 has a pink and purple Logo

If you have SL2 you can open SL1 projects and will get a warning 'do you want to upgrade'. If you select yes, SL2 will upgrade the project to SL2 and keep a SL1 backup.

Warning:  If you are collaborating on the project and are on different versions it will need to stay as SL1 as SL2 projects cannot be opened in SL1.

Hope that helps.
