Error When trying to open Original Storyline when I have both Storyline and Storyline2

Aug 24, 2015

I am trying to update a Story that was built in Storyline.  I have both the original and Storyline 2 on my computer.  I try to open the story file but I keep getting the error that it "cannot open the file, it might have been built in a newer version".  I find the original story, right click and Open with but the older version of Storyline is the only thing present.  I Browse and  the option forclicking on Storyline 2 doesn't appear.  HELP!!

Hi Donna! This is driven by the default version of Storyline that you have set on your computer. Sounds like your default may be Storyline 1.

If I use right-click on file and Open With... then choose default program, it will change how my system behaves.

Are you able to open the Storyline 2 software and then Browse to the file that you would like to open? This will prevent your default from changing.

It continues to open in Storyline(Original Green black icon) when I select Open with and Browse I find Storyline 2(pink icon) but it is also labeled Storyline and when I select it the original Storyline shows up as the one to select under Browse. Not sure if I can re-name the original storyline on the computer to be able to select just Storyline and it really be Storyline 2.
Thanks,

I'm not following what you just shared Donna. Also, please be aware that replying to the forums via e-mail attaches your signature and you are welcome to pop in and edit if needed.

Did you try the suggestion I shared above:

  1. Open Storyline 2
  2. Browse to file to be opened as shown below:

The icons for all of your Storyline files will match the default program you have set on your computer.
