Evaluating user input

Sep 17, 2013

Hello,

How do I evaluate user input to replace text on screen with a numeric value.  For example, I display the letters "PP" and want the learner to type in 01.  Ideally the p's would be exchanged one at a time as the user types "0" and "1".  If correct the next slide will advance, however anything other than "01" will trigger feedback.

Hi Mike,

Thanks very much for the reply.  I will certainly try this.  I have also discovered a way to accomplish this using variables and adjusting the value when the user clicks a button. The initial value is set to "P" and displayed on screen. When the user clicks an invisible button over a similated keypad the "adjust variable" action changes the value to zero or one as necessary. Another variable is used to count the user clicks and advance the slide.  Not the cleanest approach but that is one of the wonderful features of Storyline - there are many ways to accomplish a task.  This was my first post and I really appreciate you assistance.

Hi Matt,

Glad you got it to work!

Here's another file that I was noodling with, it's a dial pad with yet another means of inputting numbers!  My next step is to add a "back" button to delete numbers...but I haven't had time to work through the triggers on that yet!  I thought you might find it useful as you're working on your course.
