Exam issues

Nov 04, 2013

Dear sir, madam,

My colleague created a 5 mpc exam in Articulate Storyline. It works perfectly when we testdrive it ourselves. In the result slide we can see the actual results, which is good.

When other people test it (via LMS), they get wrong results on the resultpage. Instead of an 80% score, they get a 0% score. How is this possible? The results change all the time and that makes it very weird to explain.

Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks a lot for your reply!

Regards,

Madeleine de Bruin

Hi Madeleine,

You may also want to review this post on troubleshooting common LMS issues, specifically tracking the results slide and testing the course within SCORM Cloud.  If you'd like us to take a look at your .story file as well, you're welcome to share it here in the forums or share it privately with us here.

Hi Angelina and welcome to Heroes!

Since it looks like you're publishing for Scorm 1.2, you may want to try the suggestion of testing it within SCORM Cloud to see if the results are the same. If not, you'll want to connect with the team who manages your LMS. If you're able to replicate the behavior, can you share your .story file with our Support team?

Hi Angelina:

In line with Ashley, testing on SCORM Cloud will allow you to see standardized results (SCORM Cloud is teh standard). In your internal testing (assuming you are testing on an LMS internally before providing your client the product), you get a score correctly.

It looks like your clients LMS may not be of a SCORM standard.

Many things can go wrong when providing clients elearning products, such as:

1. Client may have a non standard SCORM engine (some SCORM LMS systems requier you to modify the imsmanifest.xml to properly work).

2. Clients LMS may not have a SCORM engine (example: the LMS is only using AICC functionality)

3. Client may be uploading, or setting up, the product incorrectly

4. Client LMS may not have session data enabled (caching is disabled)

5. Your Resporting and Tracking setup for SCORM1.2 may be set incorrectly for the LMS to recognize the interactions.

The are many other things to consider as well...

Step 1: Find the make and model of the clients LMS (a must do step)

Step 2: Research the issue in SL against that platform (internet search and/or contact the vendor)

Step 3: Identify to the vendor that the course works in your LMS and not in their LMS

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your soon reply.

I just uploaded the SCORM into the SCORM Cloud. Unfortunately the results did not match.

So it is something that we did do wrong (although testing showed us the correct results) and I don't think it has anything to do with the LMS.

What could we have done wrong? Perhaps, my colleague can send you more details about the exam she made and the result slide. She will be back at work next week.

Thanks again,

Madeleine

Hi Madeleine:

I'm sure I could be helpful and correct your issue, however, the best path to take when you have issues such as this are to contact Articulate support and provide them your story file.

You can open a ticket with Articulate:

Submit your story file at the following link: http://www.articulate.com/support/contact/submit.php

When you submit your case, you will receive a Tracking number so Articulate can email you referencing this number.

In the support case page, you will be asked to copy and paste the URL of this thread so Articulate support can see what you have tried to do already.

This is your best procedure to follow as I do not consistently have time to provide support to people.

I like to help where I can, and do like to the challenges of solving issues for people, however, I do have a day job.

Hi Dennis and Ashley,

Thanks for all your help and tips. We have found the problem and solved it.

After they answered the question, they could click the feedback button. When they did that, the right answer appeared. Once we removed that, the scores were right.

So, thanks again for your help.

Best regards,

Angelina
