I have created a course that has an Excel spreadsheet as an attached resource, but I'm unsure if Storyline supports this - when I publish the course and try to open the spreadsheet it doesn't work - I get prompted to download a zip instead and the spreadsheet is nowhere to be seen.
Update: I can open the Spreadsheet using Mozilla Firefox, but not Internet Explorer 8 or 11. Are there any reported compatibility issues between Storyline and Internet Explorer?
Thanks for that update, Patrícia. There shouldn't be an issue with opening an Excel file attached as a resource. Did you publish the content with Flash or HTML5? Internet Explorer is a supported browser for Flash, but not HTML5.
I put together a quick sample file for you to test in Internet Explorer. Are you able to download the Excel file there? Here's a Peek at what I saw on my end.
I opened your file and it works perfectly. I was checking my publish settings on Storyline 2 and I included the HTML5 output, which is probably why my spreadsheet isn't working on IE.
Thanks for that update, Patricia! One way you can double check whether you were viewing the Flash output or the HTML5 output is to look at the end of the URL:
If you see story.html, you're viewing the Flash output.
If you see story_html5.html, you're viewing the HTML5 output.
The link I sent in my previous post points to the Flash output:
If you notice that your link also points to the Flash output but you're still not able to open the file, it could be a browser-specific setting that is blocking file downloads.
I hope this is helpful, and let me know if you have any other questions!
I've re-uploaded the course to my server with the spreadsheet saved as an .xls file, instead of a .xlsx as the article states, and this time it worked. I was able to open the spreadsheet straight from the resources tab on IE 11 without any problems.
I know the article mentions this fix for Storyline 1, but I've used Storyline 2 to create this course and it still applies.

Hi Alyssa,
I've published the course again, opened the story.html file and still got the same error.
However I think that I found the problem - it's probably something on my hosting server, as I read on this article: https://articulate.com/support/article/word-excel-or-powerpoint-attachment-changes-to-a-zip-file-286
Many thanks for all your help!
Great find, Patrícia! Keep me posted on whether the recommendations in that article work for you!
