Execute Javascript trigger on text hyperlink
Apr 12, 2014
Hi everyone,
After two solid days of tinkering with Google Analytics and triggers, I feel very successful that I finally am capturing all of the data I want to be capturing, with one exception. I am using javascript snippets to send 'pageview' info to Google Analytics for every screen, and 'event' info for downloads. These elements are working perfectly. The only problem I am encountering is with text hyperlinks.
For each text hyperlink, I have two triggers. One to launch the linked website, and one to execute the javascript that sends it as an event to Google Analytics so that I can track which external links are actually getting clicked. The course is launching the websites when these hyperlinks are clicked, as expected, but for some reason Google is not getting the event info.
My question is this: are there limitations on triggers for text hyperlinks that don't apply to other objects? It seems that when I add a hyperlink trigger to text, it breaks any previous trigger on the same text. I am not having this issue with clickable objects, only with hyperlinks.
I will very much appreciate any insights. Thanks!

Have you tried changing the order of the triggers. If the trigger to open the link is first, the second trigger may not be activating. Another option you might want to try is putting a hotspot over that text since you are not having issues with shapes having the triggers.
I did try changing the order, and it doesn't seem to help. A hotspot over the text is a good workaround. Thanks for the suggestion!
