Exit button issue

Aug 01, 2014

I've got a problem with the exit button that keeps cropping up.

The client i'm working with uses IE9 & Firefox. It's an LRN LMS.

The LMS manager at my client has said...

'IE9 and earlier versions block the exit button for pages which have been opened via a script. The page will therefore not close. From IE10 onwards, this should have been solved. It also happens in Firefox, but there is a setting that can be changed to eliminate the issue'.

He hasn't much knowledge of Articulate so does not know the setting. I also find that the exit button does not work when publishing directly to Chrome on the web.

Has anyone else experienced this or have any idea how i fix this?

I gave up on the exit button ages ago. Generally an LMS reports from you closing the active window, so I have an instruction at the end of the learning saying "Close this window to exit" and just do it that way!!

I was thinking of suggesting that. Have you experienced any problems doing it this way?

Not at all.

The LMS updates your progress when you close the window (Or at least in Moodle, Kallidus and Cornerstone that's my experience). It gives clear instructions to the user as to what they need to do too, which helps to give the course a natural end which seems to work well.

I guess the answer is to try it and see what happens. Generally, I think it works well though

Hi Howie,

The exit course trigger is a tricky one, and as your LMS team mentioned it's generally connected to browser security issues as well. As far as the change that can be made, I don't know of something specific to Firefox although there is a documented method here for within an LMS, although since it's a modification of the published output it's not something we're able to support.

Feel free to keep us posted on what you find, as I know that this is a popular topic depending on LMS and browser used.
