Exporting Translation

Apr 24, 2020

Hi all,

I have ~70 SL files that I need to export as Word docs for translation. I did one successfully, but the Word doc unfortunately exports ALL question banks in that file - including those that are not used.

Is there a way to export ONLY the questions included in the (only) Scene of the module? Rather than having to manually delete all extraneous question banks in each of the 70 files I have?

[Also - while I'm asking - is there any method to doing this work as a batch? (i.e. exporting all 70 files in one go?)]

Thanks in advance!

Hi Chris!

Good question!

Can you choose which elements of the course are exported when choosing to Export Translation to Word?

There isn't a built-in feature to designate which parts of the course are exported with the translation. However, you could create a new Storyline course with the specific slides and questions you want to be translated, and then export that file to Word.

To answer your second question, unfortunately, there isn't a way to publish a batch of courses. I can see how this would become tedious especially with the number of courses you're translating. I'm interested to hear if other community members have additional workarounds to share!

Hi Chris,

I am sure we can help you out with the export of your translations. You may wish to consider and XLIFF (XLF) export as it will be easier to translate.

You translation company should be able to isolate and confirm any text not requiring translation.

We work with a number of clients this way and simply isolate and return courses with parts untranslated as this is easier to upload.

The bonus is if in the future you want to add from the question bank as they are part of the original course a new course can be generated including those questions.

We generally take the completed course for translation and return a fully translated course leaving clients free to focus on creating content rather than managing a translation project.
