I'm working with a client who's interested in having individual user variables in Storyline exported to a database. I know you can do this with Javascript (and have definitely found some great how to posts on doing this --- so thanks to you guys already for that!), but I'm wondering if anyone here has a suggestion on what kind of database to export out to (e.g. PHP, Ruby, etc.)? I'm not sure if it's something that even matters, but I'm not literate enough in databases to advise her.
PHP and Ruby aren't databases, but a scripting and programming language respectively. To answer your question, a MySQL database is the simplest and probably most cost-effective implementation, although I have been asked to create Microsoft SQL database implementations in the past as well.
I'd prefer a MySQL implementation, given a choice.

Hope this helps,
