F1 is not helping!

Apr 30, 2013

Hi there,

I am in the process of upgrading all our e-learning based around the Point of Sale system we use.  I have completed a screen recording showing the users how to process a basic sale.  I have split it up to the "try mode steps".  One of the keys that the user needs  to press is F1.  When I have previewed the scene, every time I press F1, the Articulate help box pops up which is not what I want to happen for each of my users.

Is there any way that I can stop the help popping up?!

Welcome to E-Learning Heroes, Charlotte!

The F1 key defaults to quite a few different menus and actions, depending on what program you have selected. Usually, this defaults to the programs "Help" menu.

For example, if you're running the Google Chrome web browser and you press F1, you're going to see the help page there as well. So, this really has to do with a limitation of the key command and the program you're using.

How do you plan on distributing your course? If you plan on sharing this in any web browser, you're likely to run into the same trouble. It may be best to use a different key (other than a function key) for training purposes. You could always note that this wouldn't be the actual key used in the process and you may even be able to assign multiple keys (for example F and 1) to help the learner recall the key easily.

I hope this helps!

Thanks and welcome again,

Christine
