Fade Animation for Text Box on State Change

Nov 01, 2018

Hello, Experts!

I've seen a couple discussions about fading characters in state changes to animate them moving positions, but none of the solutions there seemed to work for my situation.  I have a series of text boxes on the screen and want to highlight the specific one being discussed in the voice-over by placing a dark box behind it.  In the default state all of the text boxes are black font, but when the focus box is placed underneath it I need the font to turn white so it's readable... and then go back to black text when the box fades away and "moves" to the next text box.

I've set up state changes for the text boxes with the two fonts and timed them with the dark focus boxes fading in and out... but it looks jarring due to the background box fading in and out and the text just popping to its new state (font color).

Does anyone have a solution to this?  Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Thanks for the help, Alyssa.

Here is the slide I'm working with... it's very much a work in progress and in need of tweaking, but the part that I'm trying to iron out here involves the series of text boxes that appear in the middle of the screen.

There are four text boxes and as the timeline progresses dark boxes will fade in behind one specific text box that I want to draw attention to.  The font color of the text boxes start as white so they're easy to read against the dark box behind it, and then turns to black (another state) when the box "moves", so it can be read against the white background.  When the boxes move, they fade out... but the state change doesn't fade to the new text color, it appears.  Which causes a little visual "pop" during those transitions.  What I'm hoping to do is have the change in state (font color) fade in time with the exit fade of the boxes so they match.

I think this can be achieved by using a second set of text boxes as a workaround, but I'm trying to learn how to use States and was hoping this was possible with them.

Thanks again for your assistance.  I appreciate it!
